In short

How a taxi works on Procida

Procida has no metered street-hail network of the kind you find in a city. Rides are arranged directly with a driver, and the price is agreed before you set off rather than counted on a meter. You send us the time, the pickup point and the number of passengers on WhatsApp; we confirm a driver and a fixed price in the same conversation.

The island is roughly four square kilometres, so no journey on Procida takes very long. What makes the difference is timing rather than distance: ferry arrivals land several hundred people at Marina Grande at once, the lanes inland are narrow and often one-way, and the last stretch to some addresses is on foot. A driver who already knows your destination saves you far more time than the drive itself takes.

Around the island

The rides we are asked for most

From the portMarina Grande to your bed

The first ride of the trip, straight off the ferry with luggage. Most stays on Procida are a few minutes' drive from the port, and we time the pickup to the boat you are actually on.

CorricellaAs close as a car can get

Marina Corricella is pedestrian and reached by steps. We take you to the nearest road access and point you down the right staircase — there is more than one, and they do not all lead where you expect.

The southChiaiolella and the beaches

The run down to Marina Chiaiolella, Ciraccio and the bridge to Vivara is the longest drive on the island, and still a short one. Useful with beach bags, small children or in August heat.

EveningThe way back after dinner

The lanes are unlit in places and the climb back up from the harbours is steeper than it looks on the way down. Late returns are one of the things we are booked for most.

Travelling with a lot of luggage, a pushchair or reduced mobility? Say so when you write to us: it changes which vehicle we send and where we can realistically drop you.

Timing

When it pays to book ahead

For most of the year a message shortly before you need a car is enough. Three situations are worth planning: the summer months, when several ferries arrive close together and demand peaks at the port; early-morning departures, when you need a driver awake and waiting rather than found on the spot; and any evening in August, when the island's restaurants all empty at roughly the same hour.

If you already know your ferry, send us the arrival time when you book. We watch the crossing rather than the clock, so a delayed boat does not cost you your ride. For a guaranteed price and a driver holding a sign at the port, a pre-booked private transfer is the better fit; for everything else, a taxi arranged the same day works perfectly well.

Good to know

Procida taxi: frequently asked questions

How do I book a taxi in Procida?

The quickest way is a message on WhatsApp — send your time, pickup point and how many of you there are. In summer and for early-morning ferries it's worth booking a day ahead so a driver is already waiting at Marina Grande when you arrive.

Is there a taxi rank at Marina Grande?

Taxis serve Marina Grande, but availability varies with ferry times. Booking ahead on WhatsApp guarantees a driver is waiting for you on arrival.

Can the taxi take me to Marina Corricella?

Yes. Marina Corricella is partly pedestrian, so we take you to the nearest accessible point and help with directions for the short walk down.

Do you operate at night?

Yes. We provide evening and late-night rides, including after-dinner returns from the island’s restaurants and beach clubs.

Do you speak English?

Yes — we work in both English and Italian, and we help international visitors and hotel guests every day.

Can I book through WhatsApp?

Yes. WhatsApp is the fastest way to confirm. Send your time, pickup location and drop off location and passenger count.

How much does a taxi cost in Procida?

There is no meter. The price is agreed with you before the ride, based on the route and the number of passengers, and confirmed in writing on WhatsApp. Ask for a quote with your pickup and drop-off and you will have the figure before you commit.

How long does it take to cross Procida by car?

Not long. Procida is about four square kilometres, and the longest drive on the island — Marina Grande down to Marina Chiaiolella — is still a short one. Timing depends far more on ferry arrivals and the narrow one-way lanes than on distance.

Can you meet a specific ferry at Marina Grande?

Yes. Send us the crossing you are booked on and we follow the actual arrival rather than the timetable, so a delayed boat does not cost you the ride. For a guaranteed driver holding a sign at the port, book a private transfer instead.

Is it worth bringing a car to Procida?

For most visitors, no. The island is small, the lanes are narrow and often one-way, parking near the harbours is limited, and access is restricted at times in high season. A taxi or a pre-booked transfer is usually simpler and cheaper than bringing a vehicle across.
